Our method
How we explain puzzles
brewezbomatemnch.com is an independent, informative website about brain teasers, mathematical puzzles and number games for curious learners of different ages.
Reasoning is the main event
A bare answer leaves out the most transferable part of a puzzle. Knowing that a magic square sums to 15 is useful; understanding why the total forces 15 gives you a method for another square. We aim to make that second layer visible.
Our explanations follow a simple path: state the rules, try a meaningful observation, test the tempting assumption, and give a worked argument. Where a finite sequence permits several interpretations, we say so. Where a proof requires a condition, we name it.
A hint is not a disguised ending
Hints identify a direction: compare colors, examine differences or consider the box that cannot contain a mixture. Full solutions explain the conclusion separately. You decide when to open each disclosure.
Wrong turns deserve an explanation
We distinguish an arithmetic mistake from an unsupported assumption. We also distinguish a failed arrangement from a proof that no arrangement is possible. Those differences keep a learner’s useful work from being discarded unnecessarily.
Classic ideas, clearly identified
Fibonacci numbers, Pascal’s triangle, tangrams, Lo Shu and Nim are established subjects, not inventions of this website. We name relevant works and people when the connection is reliable. Historical attribution is kept modest: a familiar name does not always mark the first appearance of an idea.
Martin Gardner, Henry Dudeney, Sam Loyd and Raymond Smullyan are useful signposts in recreational mathematics. Institutional resources such as NRICH and the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences offer routes for further investigation. References are informational, not endorsements or affiliate links.
Different entry points, shared respect
Some readers want to arrange counters. Others want an algebraic proof. Both can investigate the same question. Our material does not rank people by speed, attach intelligence scores to results or promise medical benefits from puzzle practice.
Photographs set the scene. Written rules and explanatory diagrams carry the exact puzzle information. The website uses plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with no account, leaderboard or message-submission service built into these pages.
The aim is not to hide the answer for as long as possible. It is to make the reason worth discovering.
Questions are part of the method
If you find an ambiguous sentence or a counterexample to a claim, prepare a puzzle note. Include the relevant page and explain which step needs attention. The drafting tool keeps the act of writing separate from sending.
